Luther LeRoy McMains, 85, of Des Moines died from a heart ailment June 24, 1998, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A memorial service was held Saturday, June 27, at Collins Funeral Home in Winteset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial of the cremains was at Lorimor Cemetery with Masonic graveside services conducted by Evening Star Lodge 35 of Winterset.

Luther McMains was born Oct. 19, 1912, in Lorimor to Floyd E. and Annie E. (Russell) McMains. He married Ethel Hircock on Nov. 20, 1935 at Creston. Luther lived in Des Moines since 1963, having moved there from Madison County. He was a retired building engineer for Hubbell Realty. He also was a member of the Evening Star Masonic Lodge in Winterset and a former member of the I.O.O.F. and Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four infant sons, one infant daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Ronnie (wife Ruth) of Des Moines; one daughter, Judy McMains (husband Norman) also of Des Moines; one brother, Cleo Coker (wife Betty) of Utah and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
