Gerald E. McKee of Macksburg died Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Madison County Memorial Hospital. He was 78 years old.
Born in Macksburg on July 11, 1903, he was the son of Lorenzo and Cynthia Wright McKee.
He was a lifetime resident of Macksburg, where he was a carpenter and custodian of the Macksburg School before retiring. He attended Macksburg Methodist Church.
On July 2, 1924, he married Mabel Fern Thomas in Creston. Eleven children were born to the union.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul, and a sister, Ethelda Parks.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel; six sons, Francis and Melvin of West Des Moines, Roger of Altoona, Larry of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Lyman and William of Mesa, Ariz.; five daughters, Lucile Brown of Patterson, Iola Chickering of Algona, Carlotta Wilcox of Ogallala, Neb., Maxine Anderson of Dayton, Ohio., and Afada Silverthorn of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother Orlie McKee of Dixon, Calif.; two sisters, Reva Austin of Mesa, Ariz. and Hattie Henry of Tempe, Ariz.; 35 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 2, at Macksburg Methodist Church, Rev. Robert Wood officiating.
Burial was at Moon Cemetery.
