DORIS SLAVENS

Mrs. Doris Slavens McCartney, 50, of Greenwood, South Carolina, died suddenly Monday evening, January 12 at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.

Born in Earlham, Iowa, March 24, 1930, she was a daughter of Mrs. Sadie Slavens and the late Guy Slavens. She was a 1948 graduate of Earlham High School, a graduate of Lander College in Greenwood with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education, and received her Masters degree from Clemson University in Clemson. She taught fourth grade at Blake Elementary School. She was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church, where she was president of Clark Sunday School class and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, W. Boyd McCartney, a daughter, Suzanne and son Jay, both of Greenwood; three brothers, Robert Slavens of Earlham, Philip Slavens of Dakota City, Nebraska and John Slavens of Cumming.

Services were held Thursday, January 15, at Tranquil United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Myers officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
