OBITUARY

Thomas Christy Nolte, one of the thirteen children of Herman Henry and Sarah M. Paggett Nolte, was born in Jefferson county, Indiana, August 15, 1860.

When a small child he moved with his parents to a farm near Muscatine, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

In 1883 he went to Ashton, Osceola county, Iowa. It was there that he met and was married to Philena Gardner March 17, 1886. The first four years of this union were spent there, but for the last forty-six years they have been residents in the Dexter, Bear Creek and Earlham vicinities.

Three children came to this home, one of them dying in infancy.

It was while living in Osceola county that T. C. Nolte became convinced the principles of Friends best met his spiritual needs, and he united with them. He has since remained true to this faith and his God, serving the church in various capacities. He was greatly interested in the Bible school, particularly enjoying his work with the boys.

From his home, on the afternoon of July 6, 1935, T.C. Nolte answered his last summons. He leaves to mourn their loss the wife, who had been his companion for almost fifty years; his son, Clyde R. and his daughter, Gladys Fouts, with their families, both of Des Moines, two sisters, Mary I. Boot, of Dexter, Iowa, Ollie M. George, of Fairfield, Iowa; two brothers, Charley Nolte of Dexter, Iowa, and Ed Nolte of Pomona, Calif., and five grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
