Willis Rex Luke, Winterset

Willis Rex Luke, 80, of Winterset, died of a heart ailment Sept. 15, 2001 at his home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday Sept. 19, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Ben Turner officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset.

Rex Luke was born Dec. 6, 1920 in Madison County to Neal James and Mary Magdalene (Hughlin) Luke. On Aug. 3, 1941 he married MaryBelle Jickling in Winterset. He had been a farmer and a bus driver for the Winterset Community School District and also had worked at the Madison County Sale Barn. An Army veteran of World War II, Rex was a member of the Winterset Saddle Club and First Christian Church in Winterset. He had resided for all his life in Madison County, except for a three-year period when he lived in Napier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters, a daughter-in-law and an infant granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, MaryBelle of Winterset; two sons, Darrell Luke of Belgrade, Mont., and Danny Willis Luke (wife Julie) of Winterset; two daughters, Gayla Jean Barr (husband Wayne) of Lorimor and Karla Rae Hansen (husband Dennis) of Peru; a sister, Lorraine "Mickie" Wickett of New Virginia; a sister-in-law, Helen Luke of Oregon; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Winterset

Rex Luke, 80, of Winterset died of a heart ailment Saturday at home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset, with burial at Winterset Cemetery there.

Mr. Luke was born in Madison County and had lived in Winterset most of his life. He had farmed, drove a school bus and worked for the Madison County Sale Barn. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of First Christian Church and Winterset Saddle Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Belle; two sons, Darrell of Belgrade, Mont., and Dan of Winterset; two daughters, Gayla Barr of Lorimor and Karla Hansen of Peru, Ia.; a sister Lorraine Wickett of New Virginia; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
