FARMER DIES IN TRACTOR ACCIDENT

Earnest E. Lowden, Aged 69, of Truro Killed Last Thursday

Earnest E. Lowden, 69-year-old farmer living near Truro, was crushed to death by the tractor he had been operating at his farm last Thursday, July 25.

Mr. Lowden had just driven the tractor out of a field, through a gate into a lane. He had dismounted to close the gate and was bending over to fasten a wire at the bottom when the tractor rolled backward. The drawbar of the machine pinned his head against a post, crushing it.

The body was found within a few minutes by his wife. She called the neighbors and a doctor, but the victim was dead when the physician arrived.

Earnest E. Lowden was a life-long resident of Madison county and lived 19 years in the Truro community. He was born in this county Oct. 5, 1893, a son of John and Mary Read Lowden. He was married March 7, 1916, at the West Star parsonage near Winterset, to Lavona Linn, who survives him.

He was a member of the Congregational Christian church at Truro.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Clarence Lowden of St. Charles; a brother, Frank Lowden of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Grace Jones of Des Moines; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Truro Congregational Christian church, conducted by the Rev. Millard Marshall. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
