Elwyn ‘Bill’ H. Eyerly, Carson

Funeral services for Elwyn ‘Bill’ Howell Eyerly, 80, were held Fri., April 24 at the Carson United Methodist Church, Carson, with the Rev. Beverly Butler officiating. Mr. Eyerly died April 21 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs of a heart attack.

He was born August 29, 1909 in Pitzer to Earl Elwyn and Austa Alice (Moore) Eyerly and attended high school at Lorimor, Winterset and Indianola, graduating in 1928. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1941 from Simpson College, Indianola, and completed a Master of Arts degree at Drake University, Des Moines.

He married Florence Irene Casson of Carson on July 28, 1941. He spent 18 years in the education field teaching and in administration in Shannon City, Carroll, Rippey, Afton, St. Charles, Baxter and Carson. After leaving education, he engaged in farming until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression, was a World War II Coast Artillery veteran, and was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Survivors include his wife of Carson; three sons, Charles of Carson, Richard and wife, Kathy, of Fairmont, Minn. And John and wife, Lisa, of Ashland, Wis.; three sisters, Venice Burt of Truro, Helen Hutchcraft of Indianola and Dortha Schiffe of Cuba, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Burial was at Carson Cemetery. American Legion Post #556 of Carson provided military graveside rites.
