OLD SETTLER DIED DURING PAST YEAR

The approach of the annual Evans family reunion in Madison county has called attention to the death during the past year of Alexander Evans of Stillwater, Okla., who was a member of the original Evans family of pioneer settlers here.

Mr. Evans was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Evans, and was born near Burlington in February, 1846. He came to this county with his party in 1851, and settled in Douglas township.

Mr. Evans lived here until 1899, moved to Nebraska for a few years, and then to a homestead in Oklahoma. He was married here to Catherine Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Allen, pioneer settlers in the Worthington neighborhood. She died in 1938 at the age of 92 years.

In Oklahoma, Mr. Evans attained considerable prominence.
