1980Services Monday For Retta Lathrum
Retta E. Lathrum of Carlisle Care Center, a former St. Charles resident, died Thursday, Nov. 20 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 89. She had lived in Des Moines before moving to Carlisle three or four years ago.
Born on July 30, 1891, at St. Charles, she was the daughter of Elias and Johanna Wagner Miller. She was united in marriage to Edgar F. Lathrum and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include eight children, Bernal Lathrum of Johnston, Clark Lathrum of Des Moines, Charles Lathrum of Bondurant, Opal Bechtol of Osakis, Minn., Berniece Ford, Nean Wade, Joanna Miller and Twylla Milligan, all of Des Moines; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Susie Hogue of St. Charles. Among those preceding her in death were her husband, three daughters and her parents.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial was at the St. Charles Cemetery.
