Lucille Kruger, 29, a second grade teacher in the Winterset school district, died Sunday July 25, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines from injuries she received last Thursday in a collision at the intersection of West Star road and a north-south county rock road about one mile west of Winterset.

The accident occurred about 4:45 p.m. when the southbound car driven by Mrs. Kruger was struck broadside by a west-bound pickup truck driven by Don Eyerly, 18, of Winterset.

The impact sent both vehicles into the grader ditch at the southwest corner of the intersection. Stop signs at the intersection were posted only for north and east bound traffic, according to Madison County Sheriff Rex Rouse.

The wife of Orville (Lee) Kruger, 724 West South in Winterset, Mrs. Kruger taught second grade at South Ward for six years. Mr. Kruger is a seventh grade social studies teacher and boys' basketball coach at Winterset Junior High.

Mrs. Kruger was born December 27, 1946, at Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Olivene Eddy. She was married June 22, 1973 to Lee Kruger in Audubon.

Survivors include her husband, parents, two sisters, Marilyn Peterson of Exira, Iowa and Shirley Grabill of Audubon and a brother, Virgil Eddy of Ankeny.

Funeral services for Lucy Kruger were conducted Wednesday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Audubon with burial at the Audubon Cemetery.

Rev. Paul Bousfield, First United Methodist Church of Winterset and Rev. Harvey Quant, formerly of Audubon, now serving a Glenwood congregation, officiated.
