Richard Kirk, Lorimor

Richard M. Kirk, 80, of Lorimor died Aug. 13, 1995, at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston of multi-system failure. Funeral services were held Aug. 16 at the First Baptist Church in Lorimor with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Burial was at the Lorimor Cemetery. Masonic services were held at the Stroud-Lindsay-Powers Funeral Home Aug. 15.

He was born Jan. 19, 1915 in Clarke County to Joseph and Susie B. (Camp) Kirk. On June 24, 1936, he married Lois Stewart in Creston. He later married Mary L. Thompson in Lorimor. He had moved to Madison County in 1930 where he was a farmer until retiring in 1980. He was the owner of the Kirk Insurance Agency in Lorimor. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church and the Fern Masonic Lodge No. 558 AF&AM in Lorimor and a past member of the Lorimor Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; father-in-law and one granddaughter.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Mary of Lorimor; one daughter, Mary Louise Castillo and husband David of Sioux City; one stepson, Philip Stewart and wife Loretta of Middletown, Va.; one brother, Gerdon Kirk and wife Ruby of Lorimor; one brother-in-law, Robert Thompson and wife Ruth of Overland Park, Kan.; mother-in-law, Grace Porter of Winterset; two sisters, Kathleen Seales and husband Allen and Norma Woodley and husband Ronald, all of Lorimor; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established in his name.
