Funeral Held For Former Resident

Funeral services for Mabel Tyer Kesting were held last Friday morning from Collins Funeral Home here. Mrs. Kesting died April 18, 1973, at San Rafael, Calif. She was 81 years of age.

A daughter of Frederick Tyer and Ida May Hoyt Tyer, she was born Feb. 12, 1893 near Adel, Iowa. She attended rural schools in Madison County and graduated from Winterset High School in 1913.

She taught in rural schools of Madison and Dallas counties, and was married to Walter Kesting, May 1, 1917. They lived at Herndon, Manilla and Marion in Iowa. Mr. Kesting died Oct. 8, 1926.

Mrs. Kesting was a member of the United Presbyterian church. She had made her home with her daughter, Elinor, living in New York state and more recently in San Rafael, Calif.

Surviving are a son, Lawrence Kesting of Huntsville, Ala., the daughter, Mrs. Elinor Bias of San Rafael; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two sisters, Edith Tyer and Mrs. Ray Leach of Winterset.

Officiating at the funeral service was the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery north of Winterset.
