JOHN KENNY OF WINTERSET DIES

Native of Ireland, Lived In Madison County For 35 Years

John Kenny of Winterset, a native of Ireland who had been a citizen of Madison county for the last 35 years, died Thursday, Nov. 25, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 75 years of age.

He had been employed as a maintenance man at the hospital since it opened here 15 years ago.

Mr. Kenny was born in County Clare, Ireland, on June 22, 1890, a son of Sinon and Margaret Fox Kenny. He came to the United States when he was 20 years of age.

For many years he was employed in farm work in the Irish settlement, before moving to Winterset.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church in this community.

Mr. Kenny is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John Morrissey Sr., of Davenport and Mrs. Eileen Duffy of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Martin Kenny of Chicago and Timothy Kenny of Ireland; and two sisters, Mrs. Delia Waldron of Chicago and Mrs. Ellen Schimmel of California.

A rosary service was held last Friday evening from the Wilson funeral home, and funeral services Saturday from St. Joseph's Catholic church, conducted by the pastor, Msgr. John W. Higgins and one of Mr. Kenny's grandsons, the Rev. Fr. Michael Morrissey of Davenport. Burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery in the Irish settlement.
