JOE McMANUS OF BEVINGTON DIES

Had Operated Grocery Store in That Community for 40 Years

Joseph McManus, who served as a merchant in Bevington for 40 years, died at his home there last Friday, following a heart attack. He was found dead in bed. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. McManus had spent almost a lifetime in the grocery business, starting as a clerk when he was 11 years old.

He was born near Fairfield on March 10, 1865. He was married in 1894 to Elizabeth Tiernan of the Bevington community. The next year he started in business for himself at Bevington, and continued to serve that community until 1935, when he retired. He served the Bevington school board as treasurer for many years.

His wife died in 1939. He is survived by two sons, John J. McManus of Hollywood, Calif., and Edward P. McManus of Bevington.
