MCMILLAN, SEDGWICK, SPELLMAN

Winterset Madisonian - Wed., February 19, 1947

Mrs. Charles McMillan, aged Winterset resident, died at her home on West Court avenue Tuesday, Feb. 18 after an extended illness. Mrs. McMillan, who was 90 years of age, had been an invalid for the past eight years, and had been confined to her bed for the past year. Death came while she was sleeping Tuesday about six o'clock in the evening.

Georgia Spellman, daughter of George and Naomi Spellman, was born near Alexandria, Ohio, June 18, 1856. She was the youngest of four daughters in the family, and was the last surviving member. She was married in Ohio to Charles McMillan of Knoxville, Iowa, October 12, 1881. They lived in Knoxville for about a year, and then they came to Winterset where he engaged in the retail clothing business. He continued to operate the store, until he retired because of illness, selling his interest to Charles Rowe.

Mr. and Mrs. McMillan were the parents of two children: Hugh who died when he was a young man, and Miss Ruth who died while attending Rockford college, at Rockford, Ill. Mr. McMillan died in 1929.

Mrs. McMillan was an active member of the First Presbyterian church, and helped with the church activities as long as her health would permit. She was also a member of the Women's club. Her niece, Miss Ethel Sedgwick has been residing with her for the past 15 years.

The Rev. Howard Strong, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church will conduct her funeral services, which will be held in the Anderson home for funerals Thursday, Feb. 20th, at 2 p.m. and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
