George W. Thompson of Winterset died Saturday, March 27, 1965, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, at the age of 92 years. He had been a resident of Madison county since 1877.
Mr. Thompson was a native of Appanoose county, where he was born near Centerville, on Oct. 3, 1872. He was a son of Joseph and Harriett Hartcourt Thompson. When he was 5 years old, they moved to Madison county and the remainder of his life was spent here. During his active years, he engaged in farming and worked as a mechanic.
He was married Dec. 20, 1905 at Winterset to Christiana Eggleston, who survives him. He also leaves a step-son, Daniel Peed of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, David H. Thompson of Van Meter; a sister, Mrs. Harriett Scott of Cherry Valley, Ill.; a half sister, Mrs. Verda Hansen of Minneapolis, Minn.; a stepbrother, Dewey Violet of Arizona; and a step-sister, Mrs. Carrie McDonald of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home here, conducted by the Rev. Melvin Mattox. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
