Patrick A. Janssen, Winterset

Patrick A. Janssen, 47, of Winterset died of cancer Dec. 10, 1998 at his sister's home in Mason City.

Memorial services were held Monday Dec. 14 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with the Rev. John Shaull officiating.

Patrick Janssen was born Sept. 21, 1951, at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City to Bert and Ila Lorraine (Anderson) Janssen. He received his education at the Plainfield Public Schools, graduating in 1969. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls in 1980. He continued to further his education at Iowa State University in Ames. His first teaching position was at Twin Rivers School District at Bode. He later taught at Benton Community Schools in Van Horn. Since 1986, he has been the industrial technology instructor at the Winterset Community Schools. During this time, he was a junior high football and wrestling coach. Throughout Patrick's teaching career, he received many recognitions and awards as an educator, including Program of the Year Award by the Iowa Industrial Technology Association, of which he was president from 1994-95. He was also named Winterset Coach of the Year. He was a member of the Iowa State Education Association, Winterset Community Education Association, Des Moines Woodworkers Club and the First Presbyterian Church in Greene.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister.

He is survived by two sisters, Mary Jane Baldwin of Denver, Colo., and Jean Janssen of Mason City; one brother, Dan Janssen (wife Mary) of Chariton; and seven nieces and nephews.
