George A. Gutshall, a prominent resident of the Booneville community for many years, died Sunday at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. He was 88 years of age.
Mr. Gutshall was born Jan. 14, 1857, near Booneville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gutshall. He farmed on an extensive scale practically all his life, and became one of that community's most successful and influential citizens. In 1905 he helped organize the Booneville Savings bank, and served as president of that institution from 1905 until it paid off its depositors in 1939.
Mr. Gutshall was married 65 years ago to Attie Nelson. They were the parents of a son, Roy, now deceased, and a daughter, who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife; and a brother, Harry Gutshall, of Van Meter.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the United Brethren church in Van Meter, in charge of the Rev. E. A. Elliott of Des Moines, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Suckow. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
