Mrs. Sara Elizabeth McGlothen, long time resident of Madison county, died Friday, Jan. 26th at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Clair Rogers in Winterset, at the age of 79 years.

Mrs. McGlothen was born April 1st, 1865, in Minard county, Ill., the daughter of Nathaniel and Mahala Hayden. When she was a little over a year old, the Haydens moved to this county, and since then either Winterset of Peru has been her home. The past four years until recently, she had lived in Peru at the Jake Garst home.

Her marriage to Billy Killion was solemnized Jan. 1, 1882, and they were the parents of one son, Asa Killion, who preceded her in death on May 21, 1933.

On Feb. 15, 1901, she was married to George McGlothen, who died in September, 1920.

Mrs. McGlothen united with the Christian church in her early life, and transferred her membership to Winterset in 1915.

On January 3, 1945, she underwent an eye operation at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, and was brought here to the home of her granddaughter, where she died.

She is survived by six grandchildreen: Harold of Greenfield, Kenneth, Hazel and Ruth Killion of Orient, Mrs. Clair Rogers of Winterset, and Pfc. Dale Killion of San Angelo, Texas. She also leaves two brothers, Charles Hayden of Truro, and Perry Wallace Hayden of Tucson, Arizona.

Funeral services for Mrs. McGlothen were held at the Doss Kale funeral home in Truro Monday, Jan. 29th at 2 p.m., and burial was made in the Peru cemetery. Her pastor, the Rev. Tom Foglesong, conducted the services.

Sara McGlothen Died January 26 At Age 79

Sara Elizabeth (Hayden) McGlothen died January 26, at the home of her granddaughter in Winterset, at the age of 79, following an eye operation January 3 at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines.

She was born in Minard (sic) county, Illinois on April 1, 1865, and has spent her life with the exception of one and one-half years in and near Winterset and Peru. She was the daughter of Nathaniel in Mahala Hayden.

In early girlhood she united with the Christian church and remained faithful to that faith throughout her life.

On February 15, 1901, she was united in marriage to George McGothen, who preceded her in death in September, 1920. A son, Asa Killion, by former marriage, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by six grandchildren, two brothers, Charley Hayden of Truro and Perry W. Hayden of Tucson, Arizona; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Kale funeral home in Truro, Monday, January 29, at2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Tom Foglesong, the Church of Christ minister. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
