Mrs. Martha Criss, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 1951, at the home of her son, Willard Criss, in St. Charles. She was 85 years of age and had been in failing health for several years.

Mrs. Criss was a daughter of Eli and Mary Cox, who were prominent among the early settlers of this county. She was born here Sept. 27, 1865, and her entire life, with the exception of eight months in Oklahoma, was spent in or near Winterset.

She was married to Joseph O. Criss, and they were the parents of seven children, all of whom survive. The husband and father died in 1905.

The surviving children are Mrs. Maude Bullin of St. Joseph, Mo., Howard Criss, of Lincoln township, Willard Criss of St. Charles, Leonard Criss of Vallejo, Calif., Clark Criss of Atcheson, Kan., Mmrs. Isabel McBride of Long Beach, Calif., and Joe Criss of Branson, Mo.

Funeral arrangement will be held from the Winterset United Presbyterian church here, and burial will be made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery.
