R. A. WETRICH, Former Earlham Resident Is Dead

R. A. Wetrich, a former resident of the Earlham community, died Oct. 18 at Whittier, Calif., according to word received here this week.

Mr. Wetrich was 70 years of age. He was a son of William and Annie Gabriel Wetrich, and was born April 30, 1885. He graduated from the Earlham high school with the class of 1907, and lived near Earlham until 1935, when he moved to California.

He was married Feb. 24, 1910, to Mayme Colby, who survives him. They were parents of seven children, a son and daughter preceding him in death. The children surviving are: Gaile A. Wetrich, Mrs. Luther Swopes, Mrs. Doug Jones and Lyle L. Wetrich, all of Whittier, and Mrs. Raymond LeCroy of Norwalk, Calif.

He also leaves 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Howard Calfee of Eldora and Dora Wetrich of Whittier; and two brothers, P. J. Wetrich of Collins and Bernie Wetrich of Clinton.

This community received word of the death of Mr. Rube Wetrich of Whittier, California. He passed away Tuesday morning. Those attending the funeral from here, Friday were Mr. Bernie Wetrich, Miss Dora Wetrich, Mr. Pearle Wetrich, Mr. Fred Colby of Ames and Mrs. Carrie Calfee.

It is of deep regret we hear of his passing.

Rube Allen Wetrich, son of William and Annie Gabriel Wetrich, was born April 30th, 1885, and departed this life October 18, 1955. His life as a boy and man was lived on the family farm near Earlham, Iowa, until April of 1935 when he moved with his family to Whittier, California, where he lived until his death. He graduated from the Earlham high school in the class of 1907.

February 24, 1910, he united in marriage with Mayme Colby who survives him. To this union seven children were born, a son, Wayne and daughter, Ardith who passed on in July 1920. Surviving are Gaile A. Wetrich, Whittier, California; Mrs. Luther Swopes, Whittier; Mrs. Doug Jones, Whittier; Lyle L. Wetrich, Whittier; Mrs. Raymand LeCroy, Norwalk, California. There are fifteen grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Howard Calfee, Eldora, Iowa; Miss Dora Wetrich, Whittier, California; P. J. Wetrich, Collins, Iowa; Bernie Wetrich, Clinton, Iowa. In June of this year, he with his wife and son, Gaile and sister, Dora, attended a family reunion at the home of his sister, Mrs. Calfee, at Eldora.

During his life Rube has been identified with three Methodist churches. As a boy and until 1935 he was a member of the noted Penn Center church in the open country near Earlham, Iowa. He became a member of the Whittier Methodist and later a charter member of the East Whittier Methodist church. A devoted family man he gave to his loved ones a home where love ruled and flowers flourished. As a house painter, he left his handiwork in many of the best homes in Whittier. As husband, father, friend and neighbor he rated the title “A Christian gentleman.”
