Richard Howard, 77, of West Des Moines died of cancer Aug. 24, 2001, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Tuesday Aug. 28, at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines with the Revs. William H. Steward and Jacki Bradford officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.
Dick Howard was born July 17, 1924 to Esmond E. and Jennie E. (Wise) Howard of St. Charles. He was educaed in the St. Charles School District. On Nov. 17, 1945, he married LaMarian McFarlin in Des Moines. A resident of Des Moines since 1978, he had previously resided in St. Charles. Dick had been a salesman for Consolidated Supply in Des Moines. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines, the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge (50 years), both of St. Charles, the ZaGaZig Shrine in Des Moines, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He also had been a board member of the Bidwell Riverside Community Center in Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers.
He is survived in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandy Smith (husband Fred) of St. Charles and Shelly Whitmore (husband Jim) of Englewood, Colo.; a brother, Elmer "Bim" Howard of Indianola; and six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Bidwell Riverside Community Center in Des Moines.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
