W. O. Jessup was born in Lincoln township, Madison county, Iowa on August 25, 1856. He died at his home on South 7th Street Winterset on September 17, 1931, aged 75 years.
He was the son of Isaac and Melinda Brinson Jessup emigrants of 1848 from Indiana. He spent all his life farming near Winterset. In 1914 he moved to town and was active in gardening as his strength permitted.
He married Miss Rose Deming on May 1, 1888. He was the father of seven children: Lily Belle and Floyd Raymond died in infancy. The rest are: Fred of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Everett of El Reno, Oklahoma; Eldon, Frank and Eva (Mrs. Ray Estelle) of Winterset. Two brothers also survive: Charles F. of Winterset and George T. of Lamoni, Iowa.
Mr. Jessup was a quiet, loveable man. He was loyal to his friends and was a faithful father. He leaves numerous devoted friends who mourn his departure and lovingly extend sympathy to the family.
The funeral was held at Tidrick’s Funeral home in charge of the pastor of the United Presbyterian church. The members of the choir led the singing. Burial was at Winterset.
