Carroll D. Hiatt, Truro

Services for Carroll Dwight Hiatt, 74, Truro, who died Feb. 22 at Des Moines General Hospital, were held Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro with the Rev. Ann Louise Weisenfluh of Truro officiating. Burial was at the Hartman Cemetery.

Born on Dec. 27, 1913 at Truro, he was the son of Elijah and Jesse Barber Hiatt. He was a pipeline foreman for the Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America and lived 42 years in Truro. He was the past member of the Ivy Masonic Lodge of Truro and the Lions Club of St. Charles. Mr. Hiatt was a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Truro; son, Dennis and wife Suzanne of Truro; daughter, Penny Schaffer and husband Eric of Truro; a brother, Gerald of Elkhart, Iowa; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Carroll Dwight Hiatt

Carroll Dwight Hiatt was born in Truro, Iowa on December 27, 1913, the second son of Elijah Wayne Hiatt and Jessie Barber Hiatt. He departed this life at the age of 74 years, one month and 25 days on February 22, 1988 at the Des Moines General Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.

Before Dwight began school, the family moved west and his high school education was completed in Glendale, California. On August 23, 1940, he married Helen L. Murphy at the Congregational parsonage in Truro, Iowa. Two children were born to this union.

Carroll Dwight Hiatt served in the United States Navy from September 1943 to December 1945. He returned to Truro, Iowa and worked 38 years for the Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, retiring from the position of pipeline foreman in 1976. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro, a past member of Ivy Masonic Lodge #483, A. F. & A. M. in Truro, and the Lions Club in St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Helen Hiatt of Truro; son, Dennis Hiatt and wife, Suzanne of Peru, Iowa; and daughter, Penny Schaffer and husband, Eric of Truro. Also surviving are a brother, Gerald Hiatt and wife, Nancy of Elkhart, Iowa, four grandchildren, Chet and Wade Hiatt and Jody and Rick Schaffer; and one great grandchild, Ashley White; as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 24 at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Ann Louise Weisenfluh of Truro officiating. Burial was at Hartman Cemetery, Truro.
