CLAYTON WALLACE Dies At 61 Years

James Clayton Wallace of Winterset died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1967, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, after an extended period of failing health. He was 61 years of age.

Mr. Wallace was a native of Adair County, where he was born Oct. 21, 1905, a son of James E. and Eva Wambold Wallace. He was married in Greenfield May 23, 1929, to Hilda Sheehan of Orient.

They moved to Madison county in 1940, farming for many years in Union township, then moving to Lincoln township, where they had engaged in farming until two years ago. Leaving the farm at that time, they moved to Arkansas, where they spent about a year. His health failing, they returned to this community within the past year.

Mr. Wallace was a leading member of the parish of St. Joseph's Catholic church at Winterset. He served as a parish trustee from 1944 until 1965. He was one of the founding members of the Pope John XXIII fraternity of the Third Order of St. Francis here. His life was one of service to his church, his family and his community.

He is survived by his wife; seven children, James C. Wallace of Wichita Falls, Tex., Mrs. Kathryn Seemuth of Iowa City, Thomas J. Wallace of Omaha, Nebr., John P. Wallace of Iowa City, Gene P. Wallace of LaPuente, Calif., Mrs. Rosemary Konzen of Ames, and Teresa Wallace of Davenport.

He also leaves nine grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Wallace of Creston, and Leo and George Wallace of Orient; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Johnson of Glendale, Calif.

Rosary services were held Thursday evening from Collins Funeral home in Winterset. Funeral services were Friday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic church here, with the pastor, Msgr. John W. Higgins, conducting the requiem Mass. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.

Wallace Relatives Here for Funeral

Among the relatives and friends who ere here to attend funeral services for J. Clayton Wallace at St Joseph’s Catholic church Friday morning included the children, James Wallace of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Seemuth and John P. Wallace of Iowa City, Gene Wallace of La Puente, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kozen of Ames, Teresa Wallace of Davenport, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Wallace of Omaha, Neb.

Others here to attend the services were Mr. and Mrs. El J. Lynch and Hugh Davitt of Cumming, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Davitt and Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Swift of Des Moines, Mrs. Mildred Eagan, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wambold, Mr. an Mrs. Glen McCartney, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Swift, Mr. and Mrs. Don Clure, Mrs. Doris Wambold, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hoadley, Mr. and Mrs. August Weise, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Onken and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wallace of Greenfield.

Also Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wallace and Judy, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wallace of Creston, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sheehan, Mrs. Gertrude Miller, Mrs. Milton Hartig and daughter Christine of Detroit, Mich.
