Mary Jane Watts of Lorimor died Friday, Sept. 18, 1981, at the Winterset Care Center South. She was 85 years old.
Born on Jan. 24, 1896 in Kilbourne, Ia., she was the daughter of Amos Watts and Anna Stull Watts.
She graduated as a registered nurse from Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield in 1921 and later served as director of nurses at Warren General Hospital in Warren, Pa.
After graduating from Hohenschuh-Carpenter Embalming School in St. Louis she purchased the Ryan Funeral Home in Murray in 1935 with her brother, Stanley. In 1936 they opened the Watts Funeral Home in Macksburg and in 1942 they purchased the Grandfield Funeral Home in Lorimor.
She was a member of the Lorimor United Methodist Church, the Venus Chapter No. 295 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary
Preceding her in death were her parents and brother Stanley, who died in 1959.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Burgan of Des Moines; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 21, at Watts-Lindsay Funeral Home in Lorimor. Rev. Kathryn McDougal officiating.
Burial was at Burmingham Cemetery in Burmingham,Ia
