Ralph Hammans Dies at 87 Years

Ralph J. Hammans, a resident of the Lorimor community most of his life, died Sunday, April 16, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 87 years of age.

Mr. Hammans was born in Union county Feb. 5, 1885, a son of William and Mercy Groesbeck Hammans. In 1915 he was married to Sybil Leutzinger. They made their home five miles north of Lorimor, where he engaged in farming until his retirement im 1966. His wife died many years ago. He had been living in Winterset recently.

He was a graduate of Lorimor High school with the class of 1905, and later attended Des Moines college.

Surviving are a son, Jack Hammans of Lorimor; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Brant of Truro and Mrs. Florence Bacon of Lorimor.

Five brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Lorimor Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Updike, pastor of the Winterset Foursquare church. Burial was made in the Lorimor cemetery.
