ALICE C. LYNCH, Cumming

Alice Catherine (Miller) Lynch of Cumming, Iowa, 88, died on Sunday, August 31, 2003 of a heart ailment. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 5 at St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Catholic Church with burial at the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Lynch was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. She moved to Martinsdale area with her parents at approximately age ten. She moved to the Irish Settlement in 1938 to marry Maurice M. Lynch (predeceased) where she taught school, maintained a home, farmed and raised a family of six children.

Survivors include three sons, Maurice F. of Prole, Robert J. of Cumming and Thomas M. of West Des Moines three daughters, Mary Lou Lynch of Omaha, Janet Schissel of Bloomington, MN, and Helen Butcher of Martinsdale eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home in Urbandale where a Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.

Alice Catherine Lynch, 88, of Cumming died of a heart ailment Aug. 31, 2003.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept.5, at St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Catholic Church of rural Cumming. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home in Urbandale where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Cemetery.

Alice Lynch was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Martin and Frances Miller. Around the age of 10, she moved to the Martensdale area with her parents. She was a graduate of Martensdale High School and Simpson College in Indianola. On April 23, 1938, she married Maurice M. Lynch in Churchville. Following their marriage, they resided in the Irish Settlement where they farmed. Alice also had been a school teacher. She was a member of St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by three sons, Robert J. Lynch of Cumming, Maurice F Lynch of Prole and Thomas M. Lynch of West Des Moines; three daughters, Mary Lou Lynch of Omaha, Neb., Janet Schissel of Bloomington, Minn., and Helen Butcher of Martensdale; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
