Wallace W. Wight, a resident of Madison county all his life, and widely known as a farmer and business man, died at a Des Moines hospital Tuesday at the age of 55 years. He had been rushed to the hospital following a heart attack last Saturday.
Mr. Wight was born in Douglas township on Dec. 6, 1892, the son of Theodore and Clara Wight. His father died when he was 16 months old, and his early life was spent in and near Winterset. As a young man he worked in Winterset grocery stores, for Oscar Lucas and Luther Fox.
He was married Jan. 18, 1916, to Orpha Banker. For 18 years they engaged in farming, with the exception of 6 years spent in operating the Pitzer store. They lived near Pitzer, near the Adair county line, in Penn township and near Winterset, during that period.
After that Mr. Wight was Winterset agent for the Continental Oil company for 13 years, also continuing his farming interests. He was known as a progressive and successful farmer.
He was a member of the Penn Center Methodist church at the time of his death, and formerly was affiliated with the Church of Christ.
Near surviving relatives are his wife; his mother, Mrs. Clara Wight of Winterset; an aunt, Mrs. Maggie James; and an uncle, John Abrahams; both of Winterset.
Funeral services are set for this Friday at 2 p.m. from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis of Winterset, assisted by the Rev. Tom Foglesong of Des Moines. Burial to be made in the Winterset Cemetery.
