Frank G. White, one of Winterset's most distinguished former residents, died recently at Berkely Calif., at the age of 88 years.
Mr. White had retired in 1948 after serving 32 years as chief engineer for the San Francisco port authority.
Born in Winterset, he received a degree in civil engineering from the University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1908, and went to San Francisco where he worked in the city engineeer's office from 1908 to 1911. In the later year, he joined the Port authority as assistant chief engineer.
Serving as chief engineer from 1916 to 1948, Mr. White played a major role in modernizing and developing the Port of San Francisco.
He is survived by a son, Frank T. White of Berkely; and two daughters, Mrs. Helen W. Carlton of Eureka, Calif., and Mrs. Margaret Frampton of Saratoga, Calif.
