Howard P. Curtis of Des Moines died Sunday, March 9, at the Carlisle Care Center at the age of 80. He had lived in Des Moines from 1952 until moving to the care center 5 1/2 years ago.

Born on Sept. 3, 1899, in Medora, he was the son of John H. and Phoebe Williams Curtis.

He was united in marriage to Amy Ree Breckenridge on Sept. 8, 1920. She preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 1968.

Mr. Curtis lived in Warren County during the early part of his life where he farmed until 1939 when they moved to Lacona. In 1952 they moved to Des Moines were he worked at the Peanut Product Co. and Solar Aircraft before his retirement.

Surviving are six children, Lela Hircock of Earlham, Mary Snuggs of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., Pearl Curtis of Newton, and Dean Curtis, Louise Renes and Lillie McNeeley, all of Des Moines; a sister, Vera Johnson of Des Moines; a brother, Evert of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Flossie Allsup; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 12, at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Des Moines with Rev. Leslie Potts officiating. Burial was at the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
