April 1973W. D. Fletcher Dies at 82
Walker D. Fletcher, a life-long resident of Jefferson Township, northeast of Winterset, died Monday morning, April 16 at Madison County Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He was 82 years of age.
A son of Ai and Jane Walker Fletcher, he was born March 30, 1891 on the farm in section 36 of Jefferson Township that remained his home for a life-time.
He was a member of the United Brethren Church, rural Van Meter, and spent his active years farming.
On August 5, 1914, he was married to Erabelle Moland at Ames, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 11, 1952.
In August of 1954 he was married to Isabel McNary who survives.
Mr. Fletcher was a member of the Winterset Masonic Lodge, the Consistory and Shrine and was long active in Democratic party affairs.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five chiildren; Ai Fletcher of Novato, California, Willis Fletcher of rural Winterset, Gayla (Mrs. Robert Mills), Ruth (Mrs. John Gorman) both of Winterset, and Paul Fletcher of Sioux City, Iowa. He also raised two grandchildren, Daniel D. Fletcher and Mrs. Gayla Robson, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He is also survived by 14 other grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Lois Jennings of Van Meter and Mrs. Edna Mangold of Hemet, California. Three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Fletcher were held this Wednesday afternoon, April 18 at 3 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. c. G. Sparks of Van Meter officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites, was in the Jefferson Cemetery 12 miles northeast of Winterset.
