Arthur K. Fitzgerald, Osceola

Funeral services for Arthur Kenneth Fitzgerald, 85, were held Mon., April 6 at the Kale Funeral Home, Truro, with the Rev. Selva Lehman of Truro Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Mr. Fitzgerald died April 2 at Madison County Memorial Hospital.

A rural Clarke County resident for most of his life, he was born November 25, 1906 to Charles Thomas and Fannie Bell (Rickets) Fitzgerald at Prairie Grove in Clarke County.

He attended Prairie Grove school, graduated from Truro High School in 1926 and received a rural teacher certificate from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. He married Maxine Fulmer on August 14, 1934 in Albany, Mo. He was a farmer, school teacher for two years, a member of Union Methodist Church in Clarke County, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Herbert Dean and wife, Sharon, and Larry Jay and wife, Sharon, all of Truro and Richard Lee of Woodburn; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Burial was at Fields Cemetery, Clarke County.

ARTHUR KENNETH FITZGERALD

Arthur Kenneth Fitzgerald was born Nov. 25, 1906, at Prairie Grove to Charles Thomas and Fannie Belle Rickets Fitzgerald. He attended Prairie Grove Country School and Truro High School from which he graduated in 1926. He obtained a rural teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls in 1928. He taught two years at Oak Run rural school in Madison County and then spent the rest of his active life farming in Clarke County.

He married L. Maxine Fulmer on Aug. 14, 1934, at Albany, Mo. The couple were the parents of three sons.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of the Union Methodist Church in Clarke County and remained an active member until the church closed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Fannie; grandson, Adam; brother, Elmer; and sisters, Grace Fitzgerald and Nora Pressly.

Mr Fitzgerald is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Woodburn; three sons, Herbert and his wife, Sharon, of Truro, Larry and his wife, Sharon, of Truro and Richard of Woodburn; five grandchildren: Alan Fitzgerald and Patrick Fitzgerald both of Truro, Randy Townsend and his wife, Kim, of Winterset, Kirk Townsend and his wife, Tina, of San Clemente, Calif., and Laura Townsend of Tempe, Ariz. and two great-granddaughters, Megan Townsend and Tara Townsend.

He died at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset on April 2, 1992, where he had been a patient since Jan. 3 of this year.

Services for Mr. Fitzgerald were Monday at Kale Funeral Home in Truro at 10 a.m. the Rev. Selva Lehman of Truro officiated. The organist was Jean Hurd and Emil Rinderspacher was soloist. Music selections were In The Garden and We Are Going Down The Valley.

Interment was in Field’s Cemetery in Clarke County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
