Widow of Well-Known Realtor was 86 Years of Age.
Mrs. May Willcox, a well-known Winterset resident for most of her life, died last Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1965, at a St. Charles nursing home. She was 86 years of age.
Mrs. Willcox was the widow of the late J. F. Willcox, a Wintersest realtor for many years. She was a resident of Madison county for 54 years.
She was the former Lizzie May Irwin, a daughter of James F. and Margaret Bryant Irwin and was born in Warren county July 16, 1879. As a young woman she was married on April 20, 1898 to Frank R. Goode at Milo. Her second marriage, to J. F. Willcox, occurred July 3, 1912. His death occurred a number of years ago.
Her step-son Claire Willcox, died overseas during World War I while serving with Winterset's Company A, in the Rainbow division. Her son, Irl F. Willcox, died recently, and another son and daughter preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First Christian church of Winterset, Woman's Relief corps, American Legion auxiliary, and was a Gold Star mother.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Irma Johnson of New Virginia; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Joe Irwin; and two sisters, Mrs. Fern Graham of California and Mrs. Ethel Botkins of Indianola.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. William E. Bowles, pastor of the First Christian church here. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
