EARLE WILSON, 93, Dies in Creston

Earle E. Wilson, age 93, formerly of Salida, Colorado died Tuesday, February 10, 1981 at Creston Manor in Creston, Iowa. Services were held in Salida on Saturday, February 14, 1981.

Mr. Wilson was born September 2, 1887 to John A. and Olive M. Silverthorn Wilson in Madison County, Iowa. On July 3, 1916, he married Ruth M. Givan. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson had lived in the Salida area since 1918. He returned to Creston in July of 1977.

He was preceded in death by his wife on January 30, 1975. His survivors include a brother, Carl K. (Todd) Wilson, of Creston and two brothers-in-law, Carl Givan of Macksburg and Lloyd Hannon of Atlantic.

Surviving nieces and nephews include Eileen Friday of Toledo, Iowa, Ada Banks, Rosalie Haymond, Charles Tucker and E. Louis Givan of Winterset, David Givan, Lyle Givan, Mac Bevington, Bob Bevington, Elmo Bevington, and Mary Lou Koras of Colorado, Paul Brown, Loren Brown, Ruby Dillion, Helen Armstrong, and Eva Wade of Canada and Gerald Brown of Alaska.

Earle Ellis Wilson

Earle E. Wilson was born in Madison County, Iowa, on September 2,1887. He was the eldest of five children born to John A. and Olive M. Silverthorn Wilson. He attended the country schools in Adair County and High School in Orient. He graduated from the Shenandoah Commercial Institute in 1907.

Earle was married to Ruth N. Givan on July 3, 1916, and they lived on the old Wilson Farm for one year. The following year they purchased a ranch in Saquache County, Colorado, in the northern part of the San Louis Valley. In January 1918, they moved to their new home and operated the cattle business until 1943, when Earle's failing eyesight forced them to sell the ranch and move to Salida, Colorado.

He lived in Salida until July 14, 1977, when he returned to Creston to make his home at the Creston Manor Care Center.

Earle was well known throughout Colorado a very successful breeder of Registered Hereford Cattle, and his abilities and achievements were widely recognized as one of the valued citizens and cattlemen of Colorado.

Earle was a member of the First Methodist Church in Salida, Colorado; a fifty year member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Saquache, Colorado,; a 50 yr. member of the Shrine of Pueblo, Colorado,; and a longtime member of the Salida Rotary Club and Salida Elks Lodge.

Earle is survived by a brother; Carl K. Wilson and wife Mildred of Creston, Iowa; four nieces; Mary Esther Delaney of Florassant, Missouri, Marilyn W. Hecker of West Lake Village, California; Bonnie Evelyn Ellis of Vermillion, South Dakota; and Peggy Pranger of Platte, South Dakota; two nephews; Wendell and Eugene Foxley of Platte, South Dakota; as well as many nieces and nephews on his wife's side of the family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, January 30, 1975; his parents, and 3 sisters.

A prayer service was held on Thursday, Feb. 12, 1981, at the Coen Funeral Home with Rev. Lyle Kuehl, officiating.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, 1981, at the Stewart Mortuary in Salida, Colorado. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery at Salida, Colorado. Masonic burial rites were also held at the Stewart Mortuary.
