ESTHER PILMER, Winterset

Esther Karleen Pilmer, 93, of Winterset died June 2, 2006, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 6, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Esther Pilmer was born March 8, 1913, in Douglas Township, Madison County, to Ray William and Lillie Belle (McDonald) Tyer. Her marriage to Robert Pilmer took place March 17, 1939, in Winterset. A year following their marriage, they moved to the family farm — which has been in the family for 95 years. In 1965, her family was named “4-H Family of the Year.” Robert and Esther also were honored as king and queen of the 1994 Madison County Covered Bridge Festival. Esther was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church. She also belonged to the Good Neighbor Club, I.O.O.F., Iris Club, Madison County Farm Bureau and Winter-Sets Square Dance Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by two daughters, Roberta Johnson of Orient and Mary Miller of Peru; a sister, Margaret Peterson of Des Moines; a brother, Calvin Tyer of Polk City; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a fund which has been established in Esther’s name.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
