Rodney Mitchell DeWitt, Winterset

Services for Rodney Mitchell DeWitt, 80, Winterset, who died Dec. 13 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, were held Monday, Dec. 17 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Madison County on May 28, 1904, he was the son of David and Minnie Mitchell DeWitt. A farmer, Mr. DeWitt had retired in 1977. He was a lifetime resident of the area and graduated from Patterson High School, attended Simpson College and a business college in Des Moines. He was a school bus driver for 37 years, secretary of the Patterson school board for 13 years and served on the ASC committee for many years.

He was married to Katherine Graham on June 20, 1941 at Marysville, Mo.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Richard DeWitt of Winterset; and sisters, Ruth DeWitt of Juneau, Alaska, Louise Burr of Des Moines and Alice Chapman of Adel.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
