Hazel Day, Winterset

Services for Hazel Day, 83, Winterset, who died Feb. 12 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, were held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Helton officiating. Burial was at the Early Cemetery at Mercer, Mo.

Born at Decatur County, Iowa near Pleasanton, on Dec. 30, 1905, she was the daughter of Emmett and Jeanette Kindred Helton. She was married to Oscar Day on May 20, 1925.

Mrs. Day was a homemaker and a cook and also worked at a day care nursery. She moved to Madison County in 1948 and was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church near Pleasanton.

Survivors include sons, Lester, of Polo, Mo., Max of Cedar Rapids, Neal of Earlham and Donald of Runnells; daughters, Dorothy Cassity of Gladstone, Mo., and Helen Loy of Kansas City, Mo.; 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, two grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.

WINTERSET, IA. - Hazel Day, 83, of Winterset died of a heart ailment Sunday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 10 am Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 2 pm Tuesday at Mercer County Cemetery in Mercer, Mo.

Mrs. Day was born in Decatur County and had lived in Missouri before moving to Winterset in 1948. She had operated a child-care center and had been a cook and a homemaker. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church near Pleasanton.

Surviving are four sons, Lester of Polo, Mo., Max of Cedar Rapids, Neal of Earlham and Donald of Runnells; and two daughters, Dorothy Cassity of Gladstone, Mo., and Helen Loy of Kansas City, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 pm today at the funeral home, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Baptist Church in St. Charles.
