Orla H. DeVault, 98, of Winterset died July 20, 1998, at Integrated Health Services in Winterset of complications from a fall.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with Pastor Donald Frank officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Orla DeVault was born Feb. 7, 1900, in Madison County to Charles and Carrie (Crow) DeVault. He married Estella Ellen Fox on Feb. 21, 1921, in Winterset. Orla farmed with his father in his early years before being employed by Madison County in 1929. While working for Madison County, he helped with road construction, maintenance, grading and snow removal on the country roads. In 1948, he was employed as a mechanic and later became shop foreman at the Madison County Yards in Winterset. He retired in 1972 after serving 43 years for the county.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by two daughters, Mina Jean Slater (husband Dalton) of Winterset and Geraldine Lenocker (husband Ted) of Earlham; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
