Bob "Harland" Crowdes, 73, of Ankeny died of heart failure June 10, 1999, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral mass was held Monday, June 14, at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny. Burial was at Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Harland Crowdes was born Aug 4, 1926, to Frank Charles and Lydia Elizabeth (Benham) Crowdes of Elmo, Mo. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he also was a retired salesman for Standard Chemical. He had resided in Ankeny for the past year, having spent the previous 30 years in Winterset. Harland was a member of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post 9662 in Des Moines and Winterset American Legion Post 0184 (for 24 years).
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Irlmeier) Crowdes of Ankeny; five daughters, Deb Terrell of Ankeny, Becky Smith and Jodee Crowdes, both of Des Moines, Amy Fleming of Knoxville and Lydia Stordy of Chaska, Minn.; two sons, Bobby Joe Crowdes of Ankeny and Mike Crowdes of Winterset; three brothers, Dale Crowdes of Shenandoah, Monty Crowdes of Warsaw, Mo., and Rex Crowdes of Rockford, Ill.; and two sisters, Ada Mae Hereford of Lees Summit, Mo., and Virginia Gerstner of Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Ankeny Funeral Home.
