HOWARD CRISS RITES HELD AT LORIMOR

Funeral services were held Feb. 21 from the Lorimor Methodist church for Howard Criss, a life-time resident of Madison and Union counties, whose death occurred Feb. 18 at Veterans hospital in Des Moines.

The Rev. John Hall, pastor of the church, officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Lorimor cemetery.

Mr. Criss was 73 years of age at his death. He was a member of a pioneer family in this community, a son of Joseph and Martha Criss, and was born in Madison county. He was a grandson of Eli Cox, pioneer builder in this community, he built several of the covered bridges in this county, as well as numerous other buildings.

He was married at Winterset on Dec. 24, 1917 to Flossie Barr, who survives him. He served with the Iowa National Guard on the Mexican border in 1916 and in the U.S. armed forces during World War I. He was a past commander of the American Legion post at Lorimor.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Wayne Criss of Castro Valley, Calif., Virgil Criss of Lorimor and Earle Criss of San Lorenzo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. JoAnne Rocksvold of San Lorenzo; three brothers, Clark Criss of Atchison, Kan., Willard Criss of Winterset, and Leonard Criss of Fernley, Nev.; and two sisters, Mrs. Isabela McBride of Berkely, Calif., and Mrs. Maude Bullin of Kirksville, Mo.; in addition to nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
