Bessie Cord Died at 87

Funeral services were held Monday, March 25, for Bessie Lenore Cord of Winterset, who died Friday, March 22 at the age of 87.

Mrs. Cord was born in Madison County on August 27, 1886, the daughter of Lemiel and Emiley Jane Davis. She was married to Walter A. Cord in Des Moines on December 19, 1902.

She was a lifetime resident of Madison County, except for a short time when she lived in Polk County.

Survivors include five daughters: Mrs. Russell (Helen) Day, Fern Cord and Mrs. Fred (Reva) Murphy, all of Winterset; Mrs. H. C. (Dorthy) Dethlefs of Gloucester, Virginia; and Mrs. Jim (Mary) Martin of Houston, Texas.

She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as one sister, Mrs. Dollie Clampitt of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Ferris; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 25 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur officiating. Burial was in the North McDonald Cemetery in Madison County.
