Thursday, February 14, 1929Bessie Alberta Eivins, daughter of John and Evaline Eivins, was born in Clarke county, February 23, 1878. In 1893 she moved to Webster township, Madison county, and lived there until March 1, 1910, when she moved to Macksburg, which place had been her home to the time of her death.
She was converted at the age of fifteen and joined the church at Pleasant View, where her membership was until upon moving to Macksburg, she transferred it to the Methodist church there. Bertie, as she was so well and favorably known by her many friends, was a true Christian, ever thinking of the welfare of others and was always willing to do all in her power. She always had a cheery smile for everyone and her happy disposition won her many friends.
She departed this early life on February 2, 1929, at her home in Macksburg, at the age of 50 years, 11 months and 10 days. She was one of a family of twelve children, the oldest now being sixty-nine and the youngest forty-six, and she is the first to go to her reward. Her father preceded her in death on January 6, 1916, and her mother on February 14, 1924.
She leaves to mourn their loss, three sisters: Mrs. Sophronia Bates, Carrie and Alice, and eight brothers, James M., of Salem, South Dakota; Benjamin G., of Mullins, Nebraska; Richard S., of Kent; John H., William O., Isaac N., Elmer C., and Wesley J., of Macksburg, all being present at the funeral except James, of South Dakota. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at the Macksburg Methodist church, Tuesday, February 5th, conducted by the Rev. Eugene Alexander. The body was laid to rest in the Macksburg cemetery.
