Emma Christensen, Winterset

Emma Belle Christensen, 91, of Winterset died of pneumonia May 6, 1999, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, May 12) at 1 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Special services also were conducted by the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Emma Christensen was born Nov. 28, 1907, to George and Josephine (Clements) Huston of Macksburg. A lifetime Madison County resident, she married Julius "Jake" Christensen of June 27, 1926, in Barney. She and her husband operated Christensen Laundry from the mid 1940s to the late 1970s. Emma was a member and former president of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, two sisters and one grandson.

She is survived by three sons, Donald Christensen (wife Janet) of Las Vegas, Nev. and Loren Christensen (wife Darlene) and Bill Christensen (wife Georgia) all of Winterset; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
