Mrs. Lillie Rogers, one of Winterset's Gold Star mothers during World War I, died last Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. D. Jones of Rolfe. She was 81 years of age.
Mrs. Rogers gave the lives of her two sons to the nation in World War I. They were Lieut. Lewis Rogers, and Pvt. Ned Rogers, both killed in action while serving with Company A of Winterset in France.
Mrs. Rogers was the former Lillie Ann Porter, and was born May 24, 1861 in Brown county, Mo. She was married to Lewis Rogers on March 5, 1890. He died many years ago.
She was the mother of four children. The eldest son, Gail, died at the age of 18 years, Lewis and Ned died in France, and her one daughter, Mrs. Jones, survived. She also leaves a sisster and a brother.
Shortly after the World War, Mrs. Rogers moved from Winterset to Rolfe and since then had made her home there with her son-in-law and daughter.
She was a member of the Methodist church, and took a leading part in its activities there. She was a charter member of the Rolfe Legion auxiliary of which she served as president for 10 years.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church at Rolfe Monday, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. E. J. Plummer. The body was then brought to Winterset for burial in the Winterset cemetery.
