Harriet Elizabeth Barnett, daughter of C. T. and Mary Jane Barnett, was born in Davis county, Iowa, near Bloomfield, Nov. 6, 1863, dying at her home near Winterset on Nov. 21, 1923, aged 60 years and 15 days.
She came with her parents to Madison county when one year old. She united with the M. E. Church at Fairview, near De Soto in early childhood and continued earnestly on in the faith to the end. She was united in marriage to John A. Wright, April 2, 1884. Two children were born to this union, Lloyd E., and Mabel, wife of Ray Eyerly, both of Madison county.
After her marriage, she lived on a farm near De Soto until 1901, when she moved to the farm where their son Lloyd now lives. In the spring of 1910, they moved to Winterset, where they resided two years, then back to the farm, where she continued to live until she passed away.
She united with the West Star church when she first moved to this neighborhood and continued a faithful member, always willing to do her part as a Sunday school teacher and helping to train the children, whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by the membership of her church, for her seat was seldom vacant when she was able to be there. She was also an active member of the W.C.T.U., serving as president of the local union for two years.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two children, Lloyd and Mabel, and six grandchildren: Hugh Wright, Kenneth, Wilma, Harold, Iola and Aurola Eyers; her aged father, C. T. Barnett, of Earlham; two sisters and one brother: Mrs. Anderson Barnett of Earlham, Mrs. L. A. Chestnutwood of near DeSoto and B. F. Barnett of Adel, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held at West Star church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. G. O. Wagoner. Her body was laid to rest at the Earlham cemetery in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing friends and relatives, to await the resurrection morning, she shall awake with His likeness and so shall she ever be with the Lord.
