DEAN CROW, Macksburg

Dean Nelson Crow, 89, of Macksburg died April 21, 2006, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 25, at the Macksburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg with a Masonic service conducted by Evening Star Lodge 43 of Winterset.

Dean Crow was born Aug. 17, 1916, to Walter Glenn and Dorothy V. (Ridout) Crow of Macksburg. On May 20, 1952, he married Julia Sharp in Waterloo. Dean retired from Des Moines Consolidated Supply as a warehouse manager. He also had been a farmer, carpenter, lumberyard employee and lumberyard manager throughout his working career. Dean, a longtime resident of Macksburg (with the exception of a few years residing in Des Moines), served as mayor of Macksburg for three terms. He also was a member of the Winterset Masonic & Eastern Star Lodge, of which he was twice past Master, and the Rebekah & Oddfellow Lodge and United Methodist Church, both in Macksburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

He is survived by one son, Ron Crow of Johnston; two daughters, Cheryl Wilson of Ankeny and Diane Johnson of San Antonio, Texas; two stepsons, Donald Cornelius of Fresno, Calif., and Robert Cornelius of Boise, Idaho; and 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Macksburg United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
