Jack Vincent Padilla
August 24, 1920 - March 26, 2001

Jack Vincent Padilla was born August 24, 1920 in Guthrie Center, Iowa to D. Frank and Velma Lowden Padilla. He passed away March 26, 2001 in Winterset, Iowa.

Jack graduated from Stuart High School in 1939. In high school he participated in all sports including two back-to-back undefeated football teams. Jack continued to play football in college while attending Northwest Missouri State University. There he was a three-year letterman and captain of the football team. He earned All-Conference honors and All-American honors during his years there. In 1992 he was inducted into the NWMSU Athletic Hall of Fame. As well, he was named to the "All Time Greatest NWMSU Football Teams" as a running back.

After completing military service in the U.S. Navy, Jack taught and coached at Pleasantville and Redfield until 1955 when he came to Earlham. He coached baseball and football as well as managed the summer Little League Baseball and swimming program for many years.

Jack directed Earlham's baseball and football programs to several conference championships during his tenure through 1962. He taught physical education and industrial arts along with driver education until he became the guidance counselor and then the high school principal. He also served as the Athletic Director before retiring in 1982.

In 1984 Jack was inducted into the Iowa Coaches' Athletic Association Hall of Fame. He was an excellent basketball official having several times officiated at the State Basketball Tournament in both boys and girls games. He was also inducted into the IHSAA Officials' Hall of Fame.

Jack is survived by his wife Bertie, of Earlham; son Steve and wife Barb, with daughter J.J., of Council Bluffs; son Frank and wife Beth, with children, Erin, Eric, Katie and Stephanie of Palisade, Nebraska; son Philip and wife Deb, with children Chad, Candi, Chastity, Carrie and Charles of Earlham; sister Jean Mitchell, of Earlham and brother Bob and wife Shirley, with daughter Deb, of Conrad, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Jack Padilla Scholarship Fund.

Private interment of cremains at Wiscotta Cemetery, Redfield, Iowa.
