Esther Bartelt, St. Charles

Esther Elizabeth Bartelt, 48, of St. Charles, died of cancer June 4, 1996 at her home. Funeral services were June 7 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset. Pastor Steve Koch officiated the services and burial was at the Brethren Cemetery in Dallas Center.

She was born in Des Moines on Aug. 28, 1947 to Bradley B. and Janice M. (Anderson) Miles. She married Dean Irwin Bartelt on May 26, 1968 at Dallas County.

She had been a fourth-grade schoolteacher at the Interstate 35 Community School. She had been a resident of St. Charles for the past 15 years, having moved there from Granger. She was a member of the Iowa State Teachers Association; 1-35 Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association. She had been a Sunday School teacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset and was also involved with WELCA, was an Elder on the Church Council, was on the Education Committee, and was a delegate to the Iowa Southeastern Conference Synod; and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.

Surviving relatives include her husband of St. Charles; three sons, Neil, Todd and Kyle Bartelt, all of St. Charles; her parents, Bradley and Janice Miles of Dallas Center; three sisters, Joan Barrett and husband Mark of Moline, Ill., Carol Letourneau and husband Paul of North Oaks, Minn., and Joyce Biggs and husband Craig of Dallas Center.
