Margaret "Peggy" Barker, 59, of Winterset, died of cancer April 18, 1997 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were April 21 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Father Ed Pfeffer officiated the services and burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
She was born in Warren County on Oct. 4, 1937 to Louis James and Anna Catherine (McKinney) King. She married Richard Leroy Barker on Aug. 23, 1968 in Des Moines. She was a home health aide with the Madison County for the past 27 years, having come from Des Moines. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving relatives include her husband of Winterset; her mother of St. Charles; four sons, Daniel Barker and wife Linda of Patterson, James Barker of St. Louis, Mo., and Richard Barker and wife Andrea and Joseph Barker of Winterset; four brothers, Patrick King of Prole, Gerald King of Lorimor, and Leo and Tom King, both of Winterset; eight sisters, Luella Fairholm, Nancy Stephenson, Rita Drysdale and Juanita Beeler, all of Winterset, Carolyn Rothfus and Kathleen Churchill of Carlisle, Dorothy Wedemeyer of St. Charles, and Barbara Birdsell of Buckeye, Ariz.; and one granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice.
